What if we didn't have a favourite?

This morning I have to thank my client Bonnie for inspiring me to sit down and take a moment to write again. She sent me an email and added 'Are you still doing your creative writing? I am not seeing them anymore.'

It's snowing outside, and I just came in from a cold / wet walk - it felt amazing.

I know most of you likely just read that, and thought 'ok what special juice is she drinking, to think a snow storm in April is something that could even remotely bring a smile.' Here's the thing though, on my morning walk I had this thought that I couldn't shake, and I want to share it with all of you.

Why do we feel the need to have a favourite?

I was truly in my element walking in that fresh snow this morning, and I realized how much I have evolved over the years into embracing and loving the snow and cooler weather, and I immediately felt a need to check myself and I wondered 'has winter become my favourite season?'

There are so many things I love about each season, I love the new life spring brings, I love the warmth of summer - the longer days and spending time in or around the water. The fall brings a sense of coziness and I love the colours, and winter has finally become a season I do not dread but find comfort and beauty within.

From the time we are young, we are constantly making bold statements about our favourite food, our favourite colour, and as we get older we have favourite restaurants, favourite sweaters, favourite leggings, etc.

I found myself on a client call yesterday, talking about how much I enjoyed bringing her branding project to life, and stating that it was truly one of my favourite designs to date. And in saying that, I thought to myself, I have so many favourites.

My takeaway from my own thought process this morning, is that life is too short to have favourites. Collectively deciding to fall in love with the different seasons, different foods, finding joy in various colours, and maybe loving a pair of jeans almost as much as my leggings is where I'm going to be at.

I also plan to continue to fall time and time again for the designs I get to create with so many of you, having so many favourites just means that I am truly in my element and loving that I get to create.

Thanks as always for being here, for allowing this creative outlet and I hope that reading this newfound perspective can be one of the highlights of your week - have a look at the fresh snow and take in its beauty. - Amber Sweeney

Recent Rebrand for Capital Services Ottawa

Given the weather today, it seems appropriate to share the recent rebrand for CAPITAL SERVICES. Working with Saera as the Stittsville / Kanata based company celebrates 20 years in business, and she works to honour what her dad Jim started - has been such a fulfilling project.

"The journey to our rebrand has been full of serendipitous moments. When I first reached out to Amber from Sweeney Curations for this project, I never expected just how close to home our brand hit. As we discussed our vision, Amber revealed that she had grown up in Stittsville, where she often saw our tractors around town. Now living in the Ottawa Valley, she had a Capital tractor at her home just days earlier cutting hay! It was a heartwarming reminder of the close-knit community we serve and the unexpected connections that bind us together.

Now, let's talk about our new logo. The iconic emblem now features four "C"s, symbolizing the four seasons. This not only pays homage to our seasonal services but also maintains the snowflake-vibe that has become synonymous with our brand. The sleek, modern design signifies our dedication to progress and precision, while the embedded arrow represents dynamic forward movement. It's a visual representation of our commitment to clearing paths, both literal and metaphorical, for our clients."
